About Sandra

Hello, I’m Sandra Homer

I’m the teacher behind S Plan-Fit. I believe movement should feel good, fit your own body, and help you stay strong and steady for everyday life, whatever your age or starting point.

Sandra Homer, S Plan-Fit movement teacher

I qualified as a Level 3 Personal Trainer in 2002, with training that included anatomy and physiology, sports therapy, sports massage, nutrition, instructor training and circuit training. I went on to study Pilates after seeing how many people needed more help with posture, movement and rehabilitation, and I became particularly interested in helping people navigate the ageing process in a more gentle, focused and informed way.

My Pilates training began with traditional Pilates exercises, but as I gained experience I realised that some of the traditional exercises were not necessarily appropriate for the general public, particularly for people with injuries, limitations or changing bodies as they age. This led me to further study through clinical Pilates workshops, exploring the body from a more physio-based perspective, including the spine, shoulders, feet, ankles, hips and how these areas work together. Much of my understanding has also developed through my own experience with injuries and niggles, working with physios and podiatrists, asking questions and learning from the treatment and explanations I received.

I continue to study and research biomechanics and how the body functions today. I have a particular interest in functional movement and the practical skills we need for everyday life — including different ways of getting up and down from the floor. I believe these movements are worth practising so that strength, balance, coordination and movement patterns become more instinctive, helping us stay capable and confident as we get older.

Ageing well is now both my passion and my speciality. My aim is to help people understand their own bodies, keep moving well and build the strength, mobility, balance and confidence they need not just to exercise, but to enjoy everyday life for longer.
